The reigning World Series hung the banner and got rings last week to start off a homestand at Wrigley Field. The homestand was very up and down, they won the Dodgers series 2-1, got swept by the Pirates, and showed resiliency by beating the Brewers in the series 2-1. They had a 4 game losing streak at one point but they bounced back and got on the right track. Here is some takeaways of the games these past couple of weeks.
Addison Russell is clutch:
Is it a myth if clutch hitting exists? I don’t think so, because it seems like whenever someone is in scoring position, Addison gets a hit. He proved this in the last game of the homestand in which he had a single in the 8th to bring in a run and then a walk-off three run home run. As of right now, Addison is the hottest player on the Cubs.
Bullpen bounced back:
After a rough start to the season, the bullpen bounced back in the last two games. Wade Davis has a 0.00 ERA but the bridge before him was broken. It looks like it was just rust and the bullpen is back.
Slugging will come around:
In the last two games, they have hit 4 homeruns which was up from the first 14 games. The bats are just getting heated up and will only get scarier.
Almora is great:
We all knew that Albert had a great glove but now he has a great bat. He is getting closer to an everyday player. When he is an everyday player, the Cubs will be a better team.
“We never quit”:
Just like last year, this team doesn’t quit. They came back from down 4-1 and 6-2 against the Brewers. They don’t give up and just keep fighting back, they will win a lot games with this mentality.
